5 Unexpected Ways To Build Wealth

Lets Talk About Building Wealth

We all know the tried and tested practices for boosting our savings and building a nice, comfortable nest egg.

Live within your means.

Contribute to your retirement funds.

Pay off debt.

Budget wisely.

And when it comes to bringing in a little (or even a lot) of extra cash on the side, we all know we can be enterprising and sell our wares on eBay, turn our hobby or skills into a side-business, flip houses, invest in the share market or get a second job.

But often, making money isn’t just about the physical energy exchange. You know, time in = money out.

It’s not always about where your money is coming from or how you’re investing it.

The way you think about money is also an incredibly important part of personal finance, and so here are some of the less talked about ways you can use your mindset, spiritual practice and daily actions to invite more financial abundance into your life.

 NO1

Stop obsessing about money

While it might seem counterproductive or reckless, even, to keep a laser-like focus on how much cash makes its way in and out of your bank accounts, the truth is that an incessant fixation on your net worth will distract you from the doing the activities that will contribute to growing your wealth.

So, shift your priorities from your income, to your work.

NO2

Visualise what you want to create

Whether you’re on the yoga mat, at your desk or stuck in traffic, take time each day to focus on what abundance means to you, what it looks like and how it feels.

Think about the kind of abundance you desire, and how it feels to experience it.

See yourself doing the hard work and accomplishing your financial goals. Picture your bank balance. Watch yourself paying bills with ease, and without stress. See yourself investing your money wisely, sharing it with others and simply doing all of the things you have ever dreamed of doing in your life.

Tell the universe exactly what you want to manifest in your life.

NO3

Focus on who and how you will serve

Instead of thinking about making $100,000, focus on serving 10,000 instead.

Whether it’s striving to get your product into 100,000 homes, changing 100,000 lives with your message or hiring 100,000 employees, when you focus on serving your tribe well, the money (and other rewards) will follow.

NO4

Be grateful for what you already have

Oprah once said, “Be thankful for what you have — you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”

Nail on the head, thank you Oprah.

Appreciating what you already have is a great way to overcome negative self-talk and self-sabotage, and when it comes to your personal finances, a ‘scarcity’ or ‘lack’ mentality.

So, next time you review your budget, or bank account, ditch the restrictive view and show gratitude for all the ways money — and your work — serves you. Change your language around how you talk about money.

During your gratitude practice, it’s important hone in on the areas of your financial situation that particularly causes you stress or anxiety — like your debts — and tackle the negative thought patterns.

One of the simplest and most powerful changes Marie Forleo says she has personally made to bust free from her own scarcity mentality was this:

“Anytime you part with money, bless it and say – there’s always more where that came from,” she says.

“Focusing on everything we lack, or lugging around a ‘scarcity mindset’, is possibly the easiest way to wreck your finances.”

So, instead of looking at your mortgage as a burden keeping from achieving your financial goals, focus on what the loan represents: a roof over your head; a kitchen to prepare beautiful, nourishing meals; a place to create memories for your family.

Be grateful that you even have the opportunity to own your own home in the first place.

Every time you make a loan repayment, see it as being one step closer to financial freedom — not $500 poorer!

NO5

Unlock your money blocks

We’ve spoken about this topic in depth before (you can catch up here), but fundamentally, a lack of abundance is caused by deeply ingrained and often subconscious negative beliefs we hold around money, such as:

“Money is evil.”

“I’m not smart enough to be rich.”

“I am not worthy of wealth.”

These attitudes are called ‘money blocks’ and they cause fear and anxiety around our financial situation, prevent growth and prosperity and hinder our ability to add more value to the world.

But, the good news about money blocks is that they can be cleared or dislodged in order to allow ‘abundance’ to flow freely again.

From energy balancing to life and business coaching, scrutinising spending habits and learning, there are plenty of ways you can begin to release your money blocks and in turn allow your financial energy to flow freely. Check out some of the ways, here.
