How many of us get stuck in the daily grind?

We get caught in the routine of the everyday and can sometimes lose sight of what we set out to achieve in the first place. It’s often all too easy.

Too often, we ‘some-day’ ourselves. We let our dreams fall by the way side. We allow ourselves to be influenced by the opinions of others. We are so busy rushing here and there that we forget what really matters.

This is your one and only life in which to do everything you ever will.

This is a gentle reminder to act accordingly, sweet one.

Here are five secrets to living life on your terms.

Cultivate courage

On the path to your dreams you might come up against some challenges. On the path to living life on your terms you might come up against some fear and doubt. Not only that, there might be nay-sayers who appear and challenge you.

Have the courage to live your dreams and do what you want. Have the courage to follow your heart. Have the courage to lead instead of follow and blaze a trail. Have the courage to go against the grain, to ditch the status quo and go where others fear to tread.

You might think courage is having no fear. But courage is in fact taking action despite fear and doubt being present. You see that doubt and you raise it a whole lot of commitment and action. Because… Courage = Doubt + Commitment + Action.

Find your why

If you have read Simon Sinek’s book ‘Start with Why’, you will know how important finding your ‘why’ is and how much it can propel you towards what you want in your life. If you haven’t read it, get on to that, stat.

Often, we can become so consumed with the ‘how’ we will achieve something, we forget and lose ‘why’ we started this journey in the first place.

Ask yourself:

“Why do I do what I do? What lights me up? What excites me?

When we find and tap into that space — the ‘why’ — rather than details of the ‘how’ we will achieve something, everything begins to change and shift.

Your ‘why’ is what will wake you up in the morning and keep you working for your dreams day in day out. Finding your ‘why’ and getting in touch with it acts like a magnet and propels you towards what you want to achieve.

Tapping into the vision of why you want to do something is long-term and will drive you towards getting what you want.

Start before you are ready

If you wait for the right conditions, the right time, the right moment, you will more than likely be waiting your whole life. The only moment for anything is right now. Not tomorrow, not some indefinite time in the future — all we have is now.

So quit ‘some-daying’ yourself and the life you want to live. Start working towards what you want right now. Do something towards making it happen — even if it is only small — right this moment.

Mindset and unwavering belief

As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t — you are right.”

On the road to living life on your terms, self-belief is imperative. The power of the mind is incredible and harnessing your beliefs is a key step in living life on your terms.

Thoughts have power. Incredible power. So you must begin to develop an unwavering belief in yourself and your abilities.

If you want to be wealthy but on some level think wealthy people are greedy, or, if you want to be a successful businesswoman but think businesspeople are ruthless, there will be some inconsistencies that pop up in terms of results. Clear out those blocks and the results will start to flow.

You are more powerful than you realise and you can consciously steer your life in the direction you choose.

On the path to living life on your terms, there will be the noise of others. Unless it is supportive, learn to block it out.

Surround yourself with people who support you on the journey to achieve your goals.

Find your peeps. Your tribe. Whatever you want to call them, find people who get you and who will support you, love you, hold you to a higher standard in a constructive way and completely uplift you. Surround yourself with people who believe in you.

In addition, ask these people who support you and hold you to a higher standard to help keep you accountable on the road to achieving your goals.
