Today we’re introducing you to our latest Guru To Watch: the talented Chiropractor, human biomechanics enthusiast, TV personality and speaker, Tim Robards!

Tim developed The Robards Method and today this fitness guru is sharing with The Daily Guru tribe an insight into his passion (and fascination) for health and wellbeing, as well as his fears, greatest lessons — and the one thing he can’t live without!

The best part of my job is…

That there are so many roles and ‘hats’ I get to wear throughout the day. From hands on treating in the clinic, to writing articles for, taking a group class, meeting up with members and checking in on their progress, strategising in the The Robards Method (TRM) office and playing tech head continually redesigning our app. Life is a fun, mixed bag!

I chose to enter this field of work because…

I want to make a difference to people’s health around the world. I want to change the way we view true health and get away from this reactive sickness care model we have become so accustomed to. One big part of success for me is helping as many people in my community to live a fun and vitalistic life. Seeing this happen and being able to experience this with them is so rewarding for me and keeps me going on the venture!

The greatest challenge in my career has been…

Saying no and moving on from things that aren’t serving me. Balancing what I put my time into when I have a lot going on has always been a struggle for me. The most demanding time would had to have been my time on The Bachelor. 5 am wake ups and going to bed after midnight for three months straight with a million people watching everything you say and do — that was testing!

The funniest misconceptions about my industry/company/brand are…

I think a lot of people see me doing some of the harder TRM exercises in an effort to inspire people to reach big goals, but it can be misleading in that people think TRM is only for the elite. My goal was to make health and fitness accessible and achievable for every body! My mum is the greatest example of someone giving it a crack and not doubting themselves!

The most influential person in my career has been…

My grandmother. Growing up with a masseur with a Chinese Medicine background in the family was a big influence on me early. I learnt what Qi was, I learnt the healing touch that can come with manual therapy and what it meant to work from one’s centre.

If I could give one piece of advice to my 18-year-old self, it would be…

Don’t do what you think you should or what others expect of you. Use your head and be smart but follow what you’re passionate about. Do what gets you up every morning— what you find yourself doing when you ‘should’ be doing something else.

If you love it you will be great at it and most likely someone will pay you for it. In the least, you will be happy! However, just know the difference between healthy habits and things like addictive behaviours. Just because you like sitting behind the toilet block smoking cigarettes, doesn’t mean its something you’re passionate about. Those addictive habits are usually making up for unrealised dreams and actions.

My greatest achievement has been…

I guess my TV experience was a time to step up and believe in myself in the face of much potential criticism. The decision to do a reality TV show — especially one that’s so in your face — took a lot of courage and self belief. It was not easy and I think just putting myself out there and trusting in myself would be one of my biggest achievements and is something I continue to do. Always strive to expand your comfort zone.

The greatest personal challenge I have over come is…

Tied in with the above it is probably public speaking. I’ve always struggled in front of a large crowd. The only way to get better is to put yourself out there! Preparation is key!
My first example of this was becoming primary school captain…. getting up and speaking in front of assembly each week was nerve racking, and then being ask to recite the ode at the Anzac ceremony in front of 1000’s was one time I really had to suck it up and step it up!

I don’t understand why…

Women need 1 litre bottles of shampoo on holiday.

I try to relax by…

Watching a good movie.

My biggest fear is…

Losing my health.

I can’t live without…

My TRM rings!

I really wish I had…

Better biomechanics in my knees.

The greatest lesson I have learnt is…

Understand your own highest values and attempt to for those around you

If I had one super power, it would be…

Understanding what people are thinking.

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be…

Arnold Schwartznegger, The Rock, Dave Grohl, and my girl Anna!

I’m not much of a fan of exercising. In fact, I quite often hate it. What I do love however, is exercising my vagina — or to be more specific — my pelvic floor muscles. Why? Because it allows me to have epic sex and incredible orgasms. Exercising your pelvic floor muscles with a simple […]
