The Introverts Guide
As an introverted entrepreneur, the idea of marketing your business may make you want to run and hide away and turn on Netflix for the day!
It can feel like the most daunting and challenging part of your business because traditionally, marketing has been viewed as an extroverted thing — focused on pushy, in-your-face tactics.
The truth is, marketing is far from that.
As a sensitive or introverted entrepreneur, marketing shouldn’t feel draining or overwhelming. It can (and should) feel engaging, connected and genuine. It all starts with switching both your mindset and your strategy to marketing, so you can quietly thrive online.
Which is why i’m here to share the Introverts guide to marketing.
Invite people into your world
If you’ve previously viewed marketing as being all-up-in-your-face, it’s time to switch your view of this essential and beautiful part of your business. As an introvert, we thrive off small, intimate connections and we can do this with our marketing too.
Start viewing marketing as a way to invite people into your world (your business) and connect with them cosily and comfortably.
One of the best ways to do this is by posting and sharing on social media as if you are writing to just one person. Think of your dream client and pretend you’re sharing a message with just them. This is a simple and effective way to reduce the fear of marketing and see it as a way to invite people in, rather than feeling like you’re always promoting ‘outwards’.
Stop being everywhere at once
Are you completely drained by the thought of running your Instagram, Facebook, Blog, Podcast, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube platforms? I don’t blame you!
What if you simply stopped being everywhere at once and started focusing your energy and time on mastering one or two key social media and content platforms? This not only allows you to build quicker momentum and engagement with your tribe, it frees up your time to do the work you love to do most, while conserving that precious energy of yours.
Play to your unique strengths
Often, marketing becomes draining as an introvert, because we’re trying to force ourselves to create content in ways that don’t play to our strengths. This is a one way ticket to burn out town!
Instead, assess the ways you are easily creative (writing, audio, video etc) and focus on mastering one of these strengths in your marketing.
For example, if you love to write, focus on building your blog and don’t worry about starting that video channel. If recording an audio suits your style and strengths, start a podcast and forget about forcing yourself to write all the time!
Everyone is unique, so know your personal strengths and build your marketing plan around them to ensure you’re staying consistent and focused with high value content.
Plan ahead and batch content to stay sane
Do you force out a half thought-out blog at the last minute? Or post to social media without much strategy behind it? Staying sane with your marketing as an introvert is possible when you plan ahead and batch your content.
Start by creating content ideas for your key content platform (blog, podcast etc) and get your ideas out for the next 90 days (or more if you have them!). Now that you have your schedule, set time in your schedule monthly to batch your content for the coming month. This may be one or two days a month to create your content for the coming weeks. Once you’ve batched and scheduled everything you now have consistent content and more time to work with clients or on those big projects!
With some simple mindset and strategic switches, marketing can become one of your favourite parts of running your business, and you’re guaranteed to see bigger results with less overwhelm. It’s your time to quietly thrive!
