Raising children to have healthy levels of Self Esteem is no small task in this day-and-age.

If this topic gets you feeling quite overwhelmed as a parent, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

That’s why we wanted to share some helpful self esteem questions you can discuss with your children. To help give you a starting point.

These questions are designed to not only get your child reflecting and realising things that are wonderful about themselves, but also to give you, the parent, a little window view into how they see themselves.  We hope you enjoy this exploration…

Self Esteem questions

Questions To Ask Your children To Build their Self-Confidence

1. What is the best thing about being _____ years old?

2. How are you different from your classmates?

Help your child celebrate what makes them different. Remind them that being different is brave and makes them extraordinary and unique.

3. What are you proud of?

Ideally every child should be able to name something that they are proud of. But thats not always the case. Sometimes they struggle.

If your child can’t think of anything, take some time to explore some the things they have done and see how they feel about them

4. What do you dream about?

5. How would you describe yourself?

If your child is having trouble with this, you can start by telling her how YOU would describe them.

6. I’m brave because…

7. I’m amazing because…

8. I’m silly because…

Have a lot of fun and enjoy exploring these three… you’ll be amazed at what comes out in the conversation!

9. It makes me happy when people say that I…

If your child answers here are about their appearance, try to redirect them, or remind them of the person who called them kind, helpful, brave, funny, etc.

10. I am lucky because…

11. What is something that you could teach to others?

12. What is your superpower?

This is not meant to be the superpower that your child WANTS to have, but the superpower that they already have!

What makes them amazing?

13. I know that I am loved because…

14. What is your greatest talent?

15. What is the bravest thing you’ve ever done?

This can be a tough question for kids to answer. It’s always a good idea to add your input, too.

This will also help your child to see that you are watching and proud of them.

16. Who makes you feel the best about yourself?

Make sure that you ask your child WHY that person makes them feel so good.

What is it that that person says or does to make your child feel great?

17. What is the greatest thing about being you?

18. Name 3 words that describe you.

19. What makes you different?

20. Name 5 things you’re good at.

21. What do you love absolutely about yourself?

We hope you have found exploring these Self Esteem building questions.

We have found they can sometimes help us talk about some deep stuff if necessary, depending on the answers your children give.  It just opens the conversation and encourages us to be present with our little ones.  You might be amazed at what they have to say.
