Try Something New

Feeling stuck? It’s time to try something new!

 

I have a question for you:

When was the last time you tried something new?

Trying something new can be daunting, overwhelming and a bit unnerving, but it’s also one of the only activities that will give you that push to grow as a person. Every time you try something for the first time, you are overcoming obstacles, barriers, hurdles AND you are learning. Life is a constant flow of opportunities to learn. Every time you push yourself outside of your comfort zone, you will find opportunities to learn, of educate yourself and grow.

 

Yes, it can be challenging to give something new a try. It can be scary doing something for the first time – but if it’s something that you know will align with who you are and help you expand, then what’s holding you back? Is it fear? Fear of the unknown? disappointment? Fear that you won’t enjoy it? Fear that you will fall short of expectations?

 

Release that fear, let it melt away and disappear. Allow your mind to be free to take on the ‘new’ whenever you feel like it’s time. There is absolutely no pressure – there should never be any pressure.

It’s simple:

We are always growing; we are on a constant journey of self-growth.

Self-growth = stepping outside your comfort zone = trying something new = doing something for the first time.

I find that the most challenging step in this equation is getting out of our own heads, releasing that negative self-talk and just doing!

I challenge you to try something new today – in fact, I challenge you to do something new right this second, right now!

TRY SOMETHING NEW

It could be as simple as a new recipe, or something more exciting like trying that aerial hoops class down the road. New experiences are meant to be enjoyed and they are exactly that – an experience. It doesn’t have to turn into a habit that you practice on a daily basis, and if the new experience doesn’t quite gel with you, then you never have to do it again.

We were all beginners at some point and we all started somewhere. In fact, we all started off learning to walk by crawling, didn’t we? Anyone who wants to learn the piano starts off with the basic scales and playing continuous ‘C’ notes. When we learned maths at school, we started off with basic sums instead of going straight into algebra. We all learn by going through similar processes as each other, the only thing that differentiates us is our mindset and the way we see (or feel about) a certain situation.

If you’re feeling any fear over trying something for the first time, then I want you to ask yourself why? Challenge yourself. Confront yourself. Ask yourself what is holding you back – what is standing in your way? Be honest with yourself and let go of that negative self-talk that is bullying you into feeling you’re not good enough.

Work through those obstacles you set out for yourself and persevere. Changing any habit takes time and hard work and fearing ‘new’ is a habit that you CAN change if you want to. We habitually teach ourselves to fear change and therefore, we can teach ourselves back out of it – or at least learn how we can control and work through our anxiety so it no longer stops us.

Every time you try something new, you learn and grow – you push yourself forward in your journey of life. If you are ever stuck or feel like you’re in a rut, then doing something new or trying something for the first time can be that magic tonic to help get you out of that situation. By doing the same things over and over again repeatedly, you will never achieve a different result – so if you want to make change, then that’s up to you to create it.

You are the creator and designer of your own journey, so don’t hold yourself back by stopping yourself from growth. Try something new TODAY. Just do it. Count down from 5, get up and do something awesome. Is there something you have been wanting to do for ages but have stopped yourself? Go do it. Have you always dreamed of doing something? Go do it. Is there a new activity that your best friend has asked you to do, or a colleague at work, but you have said no? Why? Just go do it. Ask yourself why you’re hesitating to try new things. It’s always fantastic when you work out what is holding you back – even that adds to your self-growth.

 

So, that is your challenge – Do something for the first time today. See how you feel afterwards.

 

Maybe it’s making a 3 course meal, shopping at an organic market, rock climbing, starting your dream business or finally booking that course you’ve been meaning to try. No matter what it is, just give it a go. I promise you, you WILL feel different after you try something new – you will feel empowered that you are not only in complete control, but that you can design that life that you dream of.
